I’ve found that, for the most part, the most important function of a blog, from a writer’s perspective, is to serve as a means of expression. Exactly what that writer may be expressing specifically is largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. This is because, in most cases, the function of that blog for it’s reader is not information, but affirmation. Most people just want to read their own thoughts in someone else’s words. It’s a bizarre concept at face value, but a successful blog really can provide a sense of validation for someone’s beliefs and a justification behind their passion. In the case of The Banner Years, that passion is American Sports.
